Rendez-vous (1985) by Andre Techiné

A confused and floating Juliette, aka Nina, aka Anne (Juliette Binoche) meets a bitter and destructive Romeo, aka Quentin (Lambert Wilson) who is struggling hard to escape and avoid the agonising, haunting play, but the ties of the past are too strong, and, being inescapably caught in the strings of his role, there is no other way out than to play the game until its tragic and relieving end.
